WHITTER, CA (03/07/2011)(readMedia)-- Whittier College Poet diver Tyler Aisner from Paso Robles, California took first place in the 1-Meter Men's event at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships late last month.
In 2010, Aisner was an all-conference honoree on the low dive and this year he repeated with an unprecedented performance.
The junior started slow and was in eighth place following his first of 11 dives but quickly found himself in the mix for a repeat on the All-SCIAC team with a second, first and first place showing on his second, third and fourth rounds, each, respectively.
He scored a 43.70 on his Reverse 2 Somersault Tuck and as an encore tallied a 61.20 on an Inward 1.5 Somersault Pike. The 61.20 was his highest total on an individual dive but was far from the most impressive numbers he recorded for the event.
After finishing in the middle of the pack with his fifth and sixth dives, Aisner posted two 10's on a Forward 1.5 Somersault Pike in the seventh round. He totaled 46.75 points on the 1.7 degree of difficulty dive and stood alone as the athlete to beat for the conference title.
The final three dives of the event only solidified Aisner's place at the top of the podium as he posted the top dives of the round. He scored 45.90 points on a Reverse Dive Straight, 38.25 points on an Inward Dive Pike and 52.80 points on a Forward 1.5 Somersault 1 Twist Free.
Aisner accumulated 451.00 points which was nearly 50 points ahead of the second place finisher.
