Pastor Carlie Muller Calling for Action in wake of latest Shooting
Anti-Violence Action Group to be formed
ALBANY, NY (04/11/2011)(readMedia)-- In the wake of the latest shootings in Albany, one being just outside the JC Club on First Street, Pastor Charlie Muller is reaffirming his commitment to removing Illegal Guns from the Community. "Programs alone won't work, we need neighbors living in these neighborhoods to take responsibility of their blocks, we need to change the culture of our community. Changing the culture, the heart of our neighborhoods is what will change our city," said Pastor Charlie Muller
With that in Mind, Pastor Charlie will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, April 12 at 12:00 noon at the JC Club 63 Quail Street, to begin the creation of a anti-violence action group to help recruit neighbors in the surrounding blocks to help take responsibility of their blocks and hopefully restore pride as well as a safe neighborhood for them and their children. "Is there more that can be done? Absolutely, but with limited funding, it is difficult to get the message out there the way it could be. This is why we need residents as well as local businesses to get to get involved," said Pastor Charlie. The deterioration of our inner city neighborhoods is at an epic proportion, we need to stop this trend and turn it the other way. This is done by all of us working together to accomplish the task at hand. We can change our City even if it is one block at a time.
The success of the Enough program in Albany has been amazing, with 355 illegal guns turned in since the start of the program two years ago. With limited funding, it takes people partnering with each other. It is because of the Partnership with the Albany County District Attorney David Soares and the Albany County Legislature that these 355 guns will not be on the streets. This partnership continues with anti-violence events held throughout the year in various locations of the City. On Saturday, April 23 at 12:00 noon, Pastor Charlie, the Albany District Attorneys Office, the Albany Parks and Recreation and the Albany Police Department will be hosting an Anti-Violence Easter Egg Hunt at Blecker Stadium. This event will be held one block form the latest shootings and will focus on stopping the violence in our community.
This week, Pastor Charlie will be launching a new advertising campaign for the spring aimed at the removal of illegal handguns in the City, The Enough program will be advertising on CDTA Buses throughout the City as well as in Bus Shelters. This again is a small part of the larger task of making our City a safe place to live, work and play. If you would like to be a part of Action Group or would like to know how you can be involved in other ways, or to make a donation to the Enough Program, please contact Pastor Charlie at 434-6100.
