ALBANY, NY (05/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Pastor Charlie Muller, District Attorney David Soares and the ENOUGH Program will hold a press conference on Friday May 25, 2012 at 11:00am in Livingston Park in Albany. Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple and the Albany Police Department Police Chief Steve Krokoff will be on hand as well.
The purpose of the press conference will be to discuss the Safe Summer Initiative in Livingston park on Saturday. The Safe Summer event will be held on Saturday May 26, 2012 from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm which also marks the three year anniversary of the death of Katina Thomas. The Safe Summer initiative will be the re-launch of the ENOUGH Gun Buy-Back program which has been slowed in recent months due to a lack of funding.
"In light of the recent shootings in Albany and the continued remembrance of Katina Thomas, we need to keep this program moving forward. I will be turning in 9 illegal guns that the program has received in recent weeks to the Albany County Sheriff at the press conference," said Pastor Charlie Muller. "This program works and if only one life is saved by this program, than it is all worth it". Since the inception of this program, we have taken in over 350 guns, that's 350 guns that will not end up in the wrong hands and that can't take a life."
"We so appreciate the willingness of partners like ShopRite, the Albany County District Attorney, The Albany County Legislature, Albany County Sheriff and the Albany police, together we can continue to make a difference in the community."
The goal with the ENOUGH Gun Buy-Back Program is to have a gun free Albany, to let people know that violence is never the answer, this will be the message this Saturday in Livingston Park.
