ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (04/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Flagler College's Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) recently partnered with Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation to build a brick pathway to help handicapped riders at the Haven Horse Ranch in St. Augustine, Fl.
The pathway, constructed by SIFE and volunteers from Lowe's and the St. Johns Juvenile Correctional Facility, will enable handicapped riders to go directly from the uneven dirt parking lot to the barn. The project will also increase the scope of therapy lessons by allowing these riders to help groom and saddle their horses.
Working with experienced Lowe's volunteers, the young men from the St. Johns Juvenile Correctional Facility learned everything from how to level the ground to figuring out the brick pattern to actually laying brick, which should aid the job prospects of the residents of the St. Johns Juvenile Correctional Facility while also increasing the quality of life for the handicapped riders at the Haven Horse Ranch.
The Haven Horse Ranch is a non-profit therapeutic riding center that works with those who suffer from physical and mental disabilities.
