Physicians for Peace Announces New Members to its Board of Trustees and Medical Operations Committee

NORFOLK, VA (10/01/2009)(readMedia)-- Physicians for Peace, a Norfolk-based international non-profit organization focusing on medical education in the developing world, announced that eight new members have joined its Board of Trustees, with terms beginning October 3. "We are pleased to welcome these members of the board during our 20th Anniversary year," said Buzz Heidt, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Physicians for Peace. "The time and dedication they will bring to our activities will be a great help in carrying out our mission in the 22 countries where we currently have programs; they share a passionate commitment to bringing international goodwill through medical education and care." The new board members are:

Richard Austin of Virginia Beach, Va. Mr Austin is managing partner at KPMG in Norfolk, Va.

John R. Broderick of Norfolk, Va., is the President of Old Dominion University.

Kathleen M. Casey, M.D., F.A.C.S. of Chicago, IL. Dr. Casey is the Director of the American College of Surgeons Operation Giving Back, a resource designed to help surgeons find volunteer opportunities domestically and internationally.

Doris S. Greiner, RN, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Nursing, Department of Family, Community & Mental Health Systems at the University of Virginia School of Nursing in Charlottesville, Va.

Atul Grover, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Advocacy Officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C.

Charles E. Horton, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., of the Children's Surgical Specialty Group at the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, Va.

Charles E. Penn, Media/Community Relations Manager at Dominion Resources Services, Inc. in Norfolk, Va.

Hemang H. Shah, M.D., FAASAM of Tidewater Neurologist and Sleep Specialists in Portsmouth, Va.

Physicians for Peace also announced the election of five new members of its Medical Operations Committee, which is comprised of a broad spectrum of professionals lending their expertise to the oversight of the organization's medical programs, missions and volunteers. New members joining the Committee on October 1 are:

Lisa Casanova, M.D. from Yorktown, Va., an OB/GYN, practicing in Newport News, Va.

Edward Charles Oldfield III, M.D., a specialist in infectious diseases and travel medicine. He is a Professor of Medicine, Professor of Microbiology & Molecular Cell Biology and Director, Division of Infectious Diseases at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va.

John Robb, C.P.O. is the President/Clinical Director of Reach Orthotic & Prosthetic Services, Inc. in Newport News, Va.

Diane M. Strout, R.N., B.S.N., C.N.O.R., R.N.F.A. of Chesapeake, Va. Ms. Strout is the Strategic Director, Neurosciences and Orthopedics and the Director, Surgical Services at the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Constance D. White of Chesapeake, Va., is a volunteer pharmacist at Chesapeake Care Free Clinic and Pharmacy Student Preceptor at the Hampton University School of Pharmacy in Hampton, Va.
