Shelly Moorman-Stahlman to Perform Sunday Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. in Lutz Hall

ANNVILLE, PA (10/17/2014)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College pianist, organist, and professor of music Dr. Shelly Moorman-Stahlman will perform Sunday, Nov. 9, at 3 p.m. in Lutz Hall of Blair Music Center, in a concert featuring piano. The program is free and open to the public.

The program will include four of Frédéric Chopin's ballades, considered the finest of Chopin's creation and among the most representative of romantic music. Moorman-Stahlman will also perform "Pour le Piano" by Claude Debussy; his first published work for solo piano. A contemporary critic referred to the piece as "the force of a programme, if not a manifesto."

The concert will conclude with "Festa Sertäo" by Brazilian composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos. "Festa Sertäo" is a "virtuosic" piece filled with the flavors, rhythms, and style of the Brazilian culture, which Moorman-Stahlman will be surrounded by during her sabbatical in Brazil next spring, where she will perform piano and organ recitals as well as give master classes.

A frequent recitalist as both an organist and pianist throughout the Midwest and East Coast, Moorman-Stahlman has garnered an impressive array of competition credits which include semi-finalist at the St. Albans International Organ Competition in England; audience prize at the Spivey International Competition; finalist in the Arthur Poister Competition; second prize in the MTNA National Wurlitzer Competition; and finalist in the Region VI AGO Competition.

Moorman-Stahlman teaches organ, piano, and church music courses. Students under her instruction have received top honors in numerous competitions. She has studied piano with Ruth Slenczynska, Santiago Rodriguez, and John McIntyre, and organ with Delbert Disselhorst, Delores Bruch, John Ditto, and Harald Vogel. Moorman-Stahlman holds bachelor and master of music degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and a doctor of musical arts from the University of Iowa.

Moorman-Stahlman has been a featured artist at major venues in Washington, D.C., New York City, and across the Midwest, receiving outstanding reviews such as "knock out performance" by the Philadelphia Inquirer and "player of technical command" by the Kansas City Star. She has also led workshops and master classes for conventions, colleges, and churches.

Lebanon Valley College offers numerous public performances by students, faculty, and guests of the College throughout the semester. For the complete list of recitals this fall, visit http://www.lvc.edu/music/student-recitals.aspx.
