UTICA, NY (06/06/2013)(readMedia)-- Media Statement

For six decades women, men and teens in the Mohawk Valley have trusted Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson (PPMH) to provide quality health care and educational services, and we value this health care provider relationship.

After careful evaluation, we have decided to close our Herkimer health center, located at 401 E. German Street, on July 3. This decision enables PPMH to focus on the continued upgrading of our other health centers in the area, to ensure we can continue to offer the highest level of patient care. It will also help PPMH meet the growing and diverse needs of women and families in the area by providing more services, extended hours for appointments and walk-in hours at our other facilities.

Transition

We care deeply about the health of our patients. Our priority is ensuring that women and families can continue to rely on Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson for quality affordable health care and that patient services are not disrupted.

We invite patients to continue receiving health care services at one of our nearby locations, including the Utica center. Located at 1424 Genesee Street, the Utica center recently completed a $2.5 million reconstruction that modernized and expanded the facility and parking lot, and improved privacy and security. Planned Parenthood Utica center has the capacity to welcome new and transferring patients. Patient electronic medical records are already available at all PPMH health centers to ease the transition.

Planned Parenthood has many partnerships in the community with other medical providers and will continue to refer patients to the provider that will best meet their health care needs.

Community Commitment

Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson is grateful to the community for its support and determination to ensure that high quality health care is accessible to all. Although PPMH is closing the health center, we will continue to advocate for reproductive rights and provide education programs at schools, community events, and local organizations in Herkimer County.
