Plasterers Recruit Apprentices
NORTH TONAWANDA, NY (07/19/2011)(readMedia)-- The Plasterers Local Union #9 Joint Apprenticeship Committee, will conduct a recruitment from July 18, 2011 through July 29, 2011 for five plasterer apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #9, 325 Oliver Street, North Tonawanda, NY, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The Committee requires that applicants:
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Must have completed 9th grade.
* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a signed affidavit from personal physician attesting to the ability to perform the tasks of plasterer, including working above 25 feet and able to lift 70 lbs. Signed affidavit must be presented upon offer of apprenticeship and indenture.
* Must have reliable transportation to and from all worksites and related instruction classes.
* Must have an in-person oral interview with the JAC.
* Must take and pass a drug screening test (paid for by the JAC) upon acceptance into the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
