Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival to host Breakfast and Books event
SEWARD, NEB. (02/15/2018) The Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival will be hosting a Breakfast and Books event from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Concordia University, Nebraska on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
The event is aimed towards teachers, librarians and book lovers and will consist of book sales, a breakfast buffet and a keynote address from children's book author, Carmen Agra Deedy. Book sales begin at 8 a.m. followed by the buffet at 8:30 a.m. Deedy will begin her talk at 9:15 a.m. and will autograph books afterwards.
"This is Carmen's fourth appearance at a Plum Creek event, as she has become a favorite speaker since her debut appearance at the 2009 festival," said Dylan Teut, Plum Creek Children's Literacy Festival Director. "The following year, she was invited back to keynote the endowment dinner with her husband, John McCutcheon. In 2015, she came back for the festival's 20th anniversary, and will now join us for our second annual Breakfast and Books event."
Deedy began her storytelling and writing career for her kids by telling her own experiences and that of her family's as Cuban refugees. Her first published book was "Growing Up Cuban In Decatur, Georgia," which was a collection of stories collected from her NPR commentaries. "The Library Dragon", "Martina the Beautiful Cockroach" and "14 Cows for America" are just a few of her publications. Deedy has won a variety of awards including the Storytelling World Resource Award, the Golden Kite, the Christopher Award and the Wow! Award, to name a few. She also hosts the four time Emmy-winning children's program, "Love That Book!"
The event is $20 for Concordia University, Nebraska undergraduate students and faculty and $35 for all other attendees.
