Plumbers & Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

OSWEGO, NY (02/14/2012)(readMedia)-- The Plumbers & Steamfitters Joint Apprenticeship Committee, will conduct a recruitment from February 14, 2012 through February 28, 2012 for six plumber-steamfitter apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.

Applications will be available at Local Union # 73, 705 East Seneca Street, Oswego, NY, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications may also be requested by phone at (315) 343-4037. Applications will be accepted during the recruitment period or until 100 applications have been issued, whichever comes first.

The Committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old-proof required upon acceptance.

* Must be a high school graduate or received high school equivalency (GED) certificate-proof required upon acceptance.

* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by applicant's statement which includes – moderate to heavy lifting, must be able to work in confined spaces, must be able to work off ladders and scaffolding at various heights and must be able to work in extreme cold and heat.

* Must possess a valid driver's License to operate company vehicles.

* Must pass a drug test and background check administered to all apprentices upon acceptance into the program.

* Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites as well as to and from related instruction classes.

* Must be willing to obligate $50.00 per year for related instruction text material.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
