Pre-Med Student Drake Bishop Earns Early Acceptance
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Johnathon Drake Bishop, a junior majoring in biology at Hampden-Sydney College, received early acceptance to Eastern Virginia Medical School through an innovative joint program. A Patrick Henry Scholar, Drake served as Vice President of the Pre-Health Society and is a member of the honor societies Chi Beta Phi (science) and Eta Sigma Phi (classics) and the professional scientific fraternity Alpha Chi Sigma. Drake graduated from Nottoway High School and is the son of John Bishop and Cynthia & Mark Longest, all of Blackstone.
Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), located in Norfolk, Virginia, and Hampden-Sydney's joint program allows talented pre-medical students to gain early assurance of a position in an entering class at EVMS. Each year the Hampden-Sydney Health Sciences Advisory Committee and the EVMS Admissions Committee select a limited number of students based upon their academic performance and extracurricular activities in both high school and in the freshman year at Hampden-Sydney. Candidates do not begin studies at EVMS until completion of their degree from Hampden-Sydney.
