Preservation League Seeks Nominations for 2010 "Seven to Save" List
Seeks endangered neighborhoods and downtowns, cultural sites and 20th century architecture
ALBANY, NY (09/11/2009)(readMedia)-- The Preservation League of New York State is accepting nominations from local and regional preservation organizations, advocacy groups, municipalities and individuals for its 2010 list of New York State's most endangered places, Seven to Save. Do you know of a historic property in need of special attention? If so, the Preservation League of New York State wants to hear from you.
"The publicity resulting from Seven to Save designation builds awareness of the significance of New York's little-known historic resources," said Jay DiLorenzo, President of the Preservation League, the not-for-profit organization that sponsors the annual list of endangered places. "Accordingly, the process of nominating a site is often the first step in protecting the endangered architectural treasures of the Empire State, and ensuring that they remain an authentic and vibrant part of our cultural legacy."
The Preservation League is seeking nominations of endangered places that may serve as case studies or models pertaining to certain preservation themes. These can include but need not be limited to: downtown buildings and historic neighborhoods and their relationship to economic development efforts; Native American, African-American and ethnic sites; 20th Century resources (Modern, "Recent Past," World War II and Cold War); and sites related by theme or geography that are characteristic of an important part of New York State history.
"We are looking forward to providing strategic attention, extra effort, and new tools to secure the future of these endangered resources for generations to come," said DiLorenzo. "We are delighted to report that through the community involvement and preservation strategies we have created together with local advocates, many significant properties have been saved."
The postmark deadline for nominations is September 21, 2009. The Nomination Form and Packet Guide are available for download on the Preservation League's website at www.preservenys.org - click on Seven to Save.
