CANTON, NY (11/16/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton Professor Brian K. Harte, Ph.D., recently received a U.S. Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation for creating an auxiliary detachment at the college.

The professor was praised for demonstrating exceptional resourcefulness and work ethic for helping to create the 20th university partnership in the nation.

Harte, who teaches in the college's Criminal Justice programs, planned and organized the detachment as part of the Auxiliary University Program so students would have access to training and advanced opportunities offered exclusively through the Coast Guard. In all, 22 students joined the detachment during the first year of the program.

SUNY Canton's program is connected with the Massena Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Harte was promoted to Professor, the highest rank for a teaching faculty member at the college, in 2014. He has authored award-winning research in the economics and business fields with other faculty members at the college. He recently published the e-book "The Prudent Student: A Professor's Guide for College Success."
