Proma Kansagra Wins Shanthi Sitaraman Student Award For Summer Research Internship

Proma Kansagra, a Biomedical Science and Enterprise bachelor's program student in Georgia State University's Institute for Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), has been awarded the Shanthi Sitaraman Student Award. She participated in a summer research internship focused on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and after completing the internship, Kansagra received a $2,500 award and presented her research during the IBMS Digestive Disease Research Day in late August 2025.

The Shanthi Sitaraman Student Award was established to provide a summer internship in the IBD field to a selected IBMS undergraduate student and was made possible by generous donations to the Shanthi V. Sitaraman Intestinal Pathobiology Endowment. The summer internship consists of lectures and laboratory experiments in IBMS labs designed to give the student both a conceptual and practical understanding of IBD. Kansagra is the first recipient of the Shanthi Sitaraman Student Award.
