Public Comment Period Extended for Draft Jessup River Wild Forest UMP

ALBANY, NY (02/23/2010)(readMedia)-- The deadline for written public comments on the proposed updates to the Jessup River Wild Forest Unit Management Plan (UMP) has been extended to March, 29, 2010, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced today.

The updates are described in a draft amendment to the Jessup River Wild Forest UMP. The UMP includes snowmobile-related management proposals designed to conform to the Adirondack State Land Master Plan and snowmobile management guidance developed by DEC and the Adirondack Park Agency, with the help of substantial public involvement.

The UMP Amendment, the 2006 UMP and other information regarding this process are available on the DEC website at http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/22599.html .

Printed copies of the draft amended UMP/EIS are also available for public review at DEC offices in Albany, Northville, Herkimer, Warrensburg, and Ray Brook; the town offices of Arietta, Indian Lake, Lake Pleasant, and Wells; the village office in Speculator; and the Lake Pleasant and Indian Lake libraries.
