Public Notice for Final Environmental Assessment
Invitation to Comment on the Proposed MEARNG and USMCR Readiness Centers, Brunswick, Maine
AUGUSTA, ME (06/15/2010)(readMedia)-- The National Guard Bureau, the Maine Army National Guard (MEARNG) and the United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR) are proposing construction of two Readiness Centers in Brunswick, Maine on an undeveloped 51-acre parcel of the Naval Air Station Brunswick. The proposed Readiness Centers would include classrooms, administrative space, assembly halls, and storage areas. Paved military vehicle and privately owned vehicle parking areas would be located adjacent to the facilities.
The proposed facilities would be constructed in two phases, scheduled to be completed in 2012 or 2013. Upon completion, existing USMCR operations would be relocated from the USMCR facility in Topsham while MEARNG operations would be relocated from facilities in Gardiner and Portland.
An Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared to document the environmental impacts of this proposed action. This EA is available for public review and comments. Interested/concerned citizens may review the EA document during normal business hours at Building 8, Camp Keyes, Augusta State Airport, Augusta, Maine. Copies of the EA are also available for review at the following libraries:
