Public Power CEO to Testify at State Hearing

Calls on Federal Government to Investigate Broken System That "Benefits Only A Few But Hurts Everyone"

PHILADELPHIA, PA (09/08/2008)(readMedia)-- Pennsylvania State Representative Camille "Bud" George, majority chair of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, will hold a public hearing regarding soaring electric rate hikes set to impact Pennsylvania residents. The hearing comes as PECO, Pennsylvania's largest utility, announced that it anticipates a 20 percent jump in electric generation charges when rate caps end on January 1, 2011. State officials project even greater rate increases for the other Pennsylvania utilities.

Governor Ed Rendell, Mark Crisson, CEO of the American Public Power Association (APPA) and others will call upon Congress to exercise its oversight responsibilities over the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to examine the nation's broken wholesale power market. These markets have done little to fulfill their promise of lowering prices and increasing electrical system reliability.
