Publix Super Markets Charities supports Flagler Fund
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (05/03/2013)(readMedia)-- Flagler College was recently awarded $5,000 from Publix Super Markets Charities in support of the Flagler Fund for Student Financial Aid.
The Flagler Fund provides support to students in the form of scholarships and institutional grants. Currently, 86 percent of Flagler students rely on some form of financial aid.
Based in Lakeland, Fla., Publix Super Markets Charities is the philanthropic arm of the popular grocery store chain. Founded in 1930 by George Jenkins, Publix Super Markets is the largest and fastest-growing employee-owned super market chain in the United States. Thirty Flagler College alumni are currently employed by Publix throughout the Southeast.
According to Kelly Williams-Puccio, executive director for Publix Super Markets Charities, the foundation was established by George Jenkins with the intention of improving life in communities served by Publix. "We believe your organization exemplifies that mission and we are pleased to play a part in your efforts," Ms. Williams-Puccio added.
