Pulitzer prize-winner Dr. Gordon S. Wood will speak at Lebanon Valley College Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. in Zimmerman Recital Hall.

ANNVILLE, PA (09/03/2013)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College will host Dr. Gordon S. Wood for a presentation on the American civil war on Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. This free and public lecture, held in Zimmerman Recital Hall of the Suzanne H. Arnold Gallery, is part of the College's Revolution Colloquium Series.

Appropriately conducted in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg, Gordon will focus on the revolutionary nature of the civil war in relation to the Colloquium's theme of revolution.

Gordon Wood, after receiving his bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Tufts University in 1955, earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University. He has taught at several universities, including Harvard and Cambridge University. Currently, he is the Alva O. Way University professor and emeritus history professor at Brown University.

Wood, author of several influential books and articles, has received numerous awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for his book "The Radicalism of the American Revolution." He has received the Bancroft Prize and National Humanities Medal, while also being featured within texts such as The New York Review of Books and The New Republic.

In relation to his most recent book "Revolutionary Characteristics: What Made the Founders Different," he has published several other texts including "The Creation of the American Republic" and "The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin." Currently, Wood continues to serve on the board of trustees for Colonial Williamsburg while conducting lectures throughout the United States.

Revolution is a year-long integrated series of guest speakers, performances, exhibitions, films, and academic courses that will consider the ideas of revolution and evolution as competing yet interdependent ways to describe the changes that surround and shape human life.
