MADISON, NJ (05/05/2011)(readMedia)-- Jaqueline Humen, of High Bridge, NJ, will be one of over 3,000 students to graduate from Fairleigh Dickinson University on May 17, 2011, at the Izod Center. She is one of just nine seniors to complete the rigorous Honors Program at FDU's College at Florham. She presented her honors thesis on the gender voting gap in US elections on April 17, 2011.
Students in the Honors Program must graduate with a 3.5 cumulative GPA and complete a thesis in their major during their senior year. Humen, a political science major, focused her thesis on the gender voting gap, attempting to correlate women's tendency to vote liberally with the economic burden of having children. This subject is relevant for upcoming election cycles. Her thesis was entitled "Women and Maternalist Public Policies: A Comparative Analysis of the US Gender Gap."
During her time at FDU, Humen has traveled all over the world. She spent a semester abroad at FDU's British campus, Wroxton College in 2009 and in 2008, she attended the 61st Annual DPI/NGO Human Rights Conference in Paris. While a student at Wroxton College, Humen traveled to Ukraine and took part in political rallies.
Overall, Humen feels her time at FDU has been very helpful and educational. Of her education, she said "I learned that each and every culture adds something relevant to the world. I have had the opportunity to meet a woman from Nigeria who was married against her will at the age of 12. I have met ambassadors from many countries, and they all have unique insight and points of view. The bottom line of this is that, cultures can shape our views, perceptions, and life experiences." In the fall, Humen will be going to Stony Brook University (SUNY) to join the Ph.D. program in political science, concentrating in political psychology.
Outside of her studies, Humen is an avid equestrian. She has been riding and showing horses since she was six and has won numerous awards for her riding.
