ALBANY, NY (11/19/2009)(readMedia)-- "Pygmalion" (United Kingdom, 1938, 96 minutes, b/w, directed by Anthony Asquith and Leslie Howard) will be shown on Friday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Many critics regard this as the very best of several adaptations of George Bernard Shaw's popular play about a Professor of Phonetics who teaches a Cockney flower girl how to speak. The film received an Oscar for Best Screenplay, and Leslie Howard (Professor Henry Higgins) and Wendy Hiller (Eliza Doolittle) were both nominated for Best Actor/Actress awards.
