ONEONTA, NY (12/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Rachel Doery of Monroe, Conn., received a scholarship award during the SUNY Oneonta Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Majors Night in October.
Doery, an earth science major, was selected by the department faculty to receive the M. Ira Dubins Scholarship Award, given to students majoring in earth science, geology, meteorology, water resources and earth science education who have demonstrated academic achievement and a strong work ethic. This award is made possible by generous gifts from the family of the late M. Ira Dubins, emeritus professor of geology. Dr. Dubins taught courses in mineralogy and meteorology at SUNY Oneonta until his retirement in 1989.
The scholarship was presented as part of the 36th annual Majors' Night, during which alumni of the department's programs return to campus to discuss their careers and offer advice to current students.
A liberal arts college with a pre-professional focus, SUNY Oneonta features outstanding and accessible faculty, students committed to academics and community service, exceptional technology, a modern fieldhouse and athletic facilities, and a beautiful campus. The college enrolls 6,000 students in its 70 undergraduate majors and 15 graduate programs.
