SCRANTON, PA (07/09/2013)(readMedia)-- Rachel V. Knuth of Greeley was among just 25 members of The University of Scranton's Class of 2013 to graduate from the Jesuit university's Honors Program. She received a bachelor of science, summa cum laude, with a major in biology with minors in biochemistry and English.

Knuth's thesis was titled "Determining the Presence of Laminin as a Growth Promoting Molecule in Goldfish Spinal Cord Regeneration." Her mentor was Robert F. Waldeck, Ph.D., an associate professor of biology at the Jesuit university.

Knuth is a member of the Health Professions Organization (HPO), Alpha Lambda Delta (the national honor society for first-year students), Alpha Epsilon Delta (the national honor society for health professionals), Beta Beta Beta (the national honor society for biology), Sigma Tau Delta (the national honor society for English) and the Alpha Sigma Nu (the honor society for Jesuit universities and colleges). Knuth was a member of the biology club and the chemistry club and was a tutor for the university's Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.

Knuth will be attending Jefferson Medical College.

Knuth is a graduate of Delaware Valley High School in Milford, Pa.
