Raquel Martinez of Riverdale Awarded Allen-Silva Family Endowed Scholarship
ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (01/06/2014)(readMedia)-- Raquel Martinez, a Riverdale, Md., native and first-year student at St. Mary's College of Maryland, was recently awarded the Allen-Silva Family Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship was established in 2012 by Maureen Silva and Kenneth Allen.
At St. Mary's College of Maryland, Martinez is studying political science, public policy and economics. She hopes to attend law school.
Outside of the classroom, Martinez is involved in Black Student Union, Dean's Advisory Council and the Office of Student Activities' Service and Social Change Committee. She is also interested in international politics, music and religious studies.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
