Raw Food Vegan Dishes Win Iowa State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/24/2015)(readMedia)-- Holly Houg of Urbandale claimed the Overall Winner title and a $50 cash award in the Eating Without Heating competition, judged Saturday at the 2015 Iowa State Fair.

Contestants were challenged to create a vegan dish that does not need to be heated above 115 degrees during preparation.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance, creativity and adherence to the rules.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 228 divisions, 850 classes and over 10,600 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Wells Blue Bunny.
