Rebecca Jordan of Ellsworth receives English Department scholarship from Saint Anselm College

MANCHESTER, NH (12/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Saint Anselm College senior Rebecca Jordan of Ellsworth, Maine, was recently awarded the honorary Conley Scholarship from the college's English department. Jordan, who loves all kinds of literature and hopes to share that passion in a classroom of her own someday, now has some financial help to see her dreams come true.

The endowed scholarship was established by the late Austin Conley, who taught English and the classics at Saint Anselm for 36 years, and his wife, Ruth, who taught in the nursing department.

Jordan's thesis topic is the enduring themes in John Milton's epic poem, "Paradise Lost."

"To me, it means my work didn't go unnoticed," says Jordan. "And when you realize that people care, it makes you work even harder."

Jordan has a minor in German and proficiency in speaking French. She is the editor of Quatrain, Saint Anselm College's literary publication. Graduate school is in her plans, but she is also interested in teaching English in Germany. She already has experience teaching, as a registered substitute in her local school system during breaks from college.
