Rebecca Kelly Ballet will offer a Community Performance Series performance on July 9 at SUNY Potsdam’s Dunn Dance Theatre.

POTSDAM, NY (06/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Community Performance Series is pleased to present Rebecca Kelly Ballet in a performance featuring local young dancers on Saturday, July 9 at 7 p.m. in Dunn Dance Theatre on the SUNY Potsdam campus.

The performance is the culminating event for the week-long Rebecca Kelly Ballet ONSTAGE dance day camp, in its ninth year in summer residency in Potsdam.

Praised by the New York Times for "its fluent decisiveness, appealing elaborate partnering, the most technically accomplished performers, [and] clean and unstrained lifts," the eight-member New York City-based RKB ensemble has performed in major theaters and toured and taught throughout the U.S. and Europe since 1980.

"Our mission is to open doors through dance, to strengthen communities through the participation in the arts, and to bring dance wherever we can," said RKB Artistic Director Rebecca Kelly. "Students have the opportunity to work with top level professional dancers who are examples of the highest level of accomplishment in the art form, and who are also compassionate and fun-loving teachers. The combination is rare, and always yields positive results for both the participant and the audience member to enjoy."

RKB ONSTAGE camp participants have the opportunity to work and study under the careful guidance of professional performing artists, in programs such as week-long intensives, daily technique classes and choreography workshops. Additionally, Kids Co-Motion introduces the youngest members of the community to dance and offers movement based parent-child interactions.

This year, 48 students will participate in the 2011 RKB ONSTAGE camp in July. Students hail from all over the North Country, including from Adams Center, Black River, Brownville, Brushton, Burke, Canton, Chase Mills, Chateaugay, Colton, DeKalb Junction, Dobbs Ferry, Fort Drum, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Lowville, Massena, Norwood, Ogdensburg, Potsdam, Rensselaer Falls and Watertown. Additionally, the camp also has participants traveling from as far as Maine and Michigan.

"Rebecca Kelly Ballet has been bringing classical and modern dance to rural and upstate communities of New York since 1987," said Kelly. "We have been returning to Potsdam for many years. It is a wonderful contrast to New York City! The town is charming, and the people at Community Performance Series have always been enthusiastic and gracious."

Tickets for the performance are $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for adults. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the CPS Box Office, located in the lobby of the Sara M. Snell Music Theater on the SUNY Potsdam campus, or at Northern Music & Video in downtown Potsdam. Tickets are also available by calling the CPS Box Office at (315) 267-2277 or by purchasing online at www.cpspotsdam.org.

Dividing time between New York City and the Adirondacks, the Rebecca Kelly Ballet has been bringing dance to the North Country for 24 years to communities including Watertown, Potsdam, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Essex, Plattsburgh, Ticonderoga, Tupper Lake and North Creek. Since 1987, the Company has developed and previewed new ballets at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.

Established in 1989, CPS at SUNY Potsdam is a college-community partnership presenting world-class performing artists and arts education opportunities in northern New York. A rich mixture of programs links community, classroom and audiences of all ages while preserving access to the performing arts for future generations.
