Recipe for College Kids Wins Blue Ribbon at State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/24/2011)(readMedia)-- Annie Lawler of West Des Moines placed first in the College Kids Cook contest judged Saturday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Natalie Ridgway of Johnston took second in the competition, and Jennifer Abbott of Ankeny placed third.

Entries could contain no more than five ingredients and be able to be made in an apartment or dorm room. Judging was based on flavor, ease of preparation, originality, appearance and suitability for college students.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
