Regional Artists Exhibit Their Works
BROCKPORT, NY (12/17/2008)(readMedia)-- With lakeside vistas, snow-covered mountains, the Erie Canal, glorious greenspaces and a reputation as a locale redolent with innovation and technology, Western New York can be both captivating and inspirational. The creativity stirred by the region explodes every two years in The College at Brockport's Monroe and Vicinity Biennial. This free exhibition will be on view at the Tower Fine Arts Center Gallery, 180 Holley Street, Brockport, from January 30 through February 24, 2009. An opening reception will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2008, at 5 pm.
Known for large outdoor installations, Dan DeZarn is currently an assistant professor at SUNY Geneseo. Barbara Rowe has drawn inspiration from maps, more specifically Buffalo's election district maps from the 1990s. In her works, "geographic factors such as creeks and the lake edge determine particular forms. But overall, the odd break up of a city pattern reflects political decisions. Laid out as relics, this arrangement of populations in chunks and blocks - separated, but connected - creates a strangely ethereal manifestation."
Peter Byrne is an associate professor at the School of Design at the Rochester Institute of Technology. His work includes elements of graphic and web design, animation, painting and typography. Living in an area known for its strong feminist community - as home to everything from the Seneca Falls Convention to Susan B. Anthony - Minna Resnick's works aim to represent an alternate view to
pre-conceived notions of the female role in society.
