Research by Thornton college student gains national attention

NASHVILLE, TN (02/07/2014)(readMedia)-- Rachel Bollinger, a senior psychology major at Trevecca Nazarene University, recently participated in a research project that has earned her national attention. Bollinger and a classmate conducted original research as part of their class in research methods for psychologists. Under the supervision of their psychology professor, Randy Carden, they developed a study topic, collected and analyzed their findings in that study, and wrote a paper which reported their study. Their paper impressed Carden, who worked with them to turn their paper into an article and submit it for publication in a scholarly journal. That partnership paid off. Their article, "'I'll Sleep when I'm Dead': Exploring the Relationship between Fatigue, Memory, Feeling, and Mood States among College Students," was accepted for publication in Modern Psychological Studies. Later this spring Bollinger and her classmate will present their study and their findings at the annual Trevecca Spring Research Symposium.

Bollinger, who is involved in Trevecca's women's basketball team, has received awards for both her academic work and sportsmanship: she has been listed on the Trevecca Dean's List, and she was named as a scholar athlete as well as freshman of the year by the TransSouth Athletic Conference. She has a heart for missions which has led her to participate in a missions trip to Kenya where she taught classes and assisted in building homes for orphaned children. Her plans include graduate school, where she will pursue a master's in marriage and family therapy. A native of Thornton, CO, Bollinger is the daughter of Rob and Patricia Bollinger.
