Resolve To Make A Difference With Children For Children’s Sweat For Nets™ Service-Learning Program
Sweat for NetsTM makes it easy for youth to “Get Active in the Fight Against Malaria.”
NEW YORK, NY (12/20/2007)(readMedia)-- Young people of all ages and from all backgrounds are _Getting *_Active in the Fight Against Malaria _*_by participating in Sweat for Nets, a free service-learning awareness and fundraising program offered by Children for Children (CFC). Funds raised through Sweat for NetsT are used by the CDC Foundation to help the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) purchase and distribute insecticide-treated bed nets to malaria-endemic regions in Africa.
“It’s hard to imagine that a single person can make a difference in fighting global problems like malaria,” says Charles Stokes, president and CEO of the CDC Foundation. “But individuals across the U.S., including children, are proving that individual action does have an impact.”
Children for Children is releasing updated Sweat for NetsT toolkits, which make it even easier for young people, teachers, families, and youth leaders to get others involved in the global fight against malaria through youth-driven action.
Sweat for Nets toolkits, which are supported by Alcoa Foundation, include:
- A step-by-step guide to give youth the tools they need to plan their very own service project to raise awareness in their local communities and funds for bed nets
- Age appropriate lesson plans for grades K-12 to teach students about the issues surrounding malaria
- Visual aids such as maps and fliers to help students with awareness and fundraising efforts
“The impact that young people can have while utilizing their talents to fight this global disease shows just how powerful youth are, and how much potential they hold to make a substantial impact in the lives of others,” says Maggie Jones, CFC’s executive director. “Children are powerful forces and are helping the world to fight one of the leading killers of young people and meet the UN Millennium Development Goals.”
