Wicks, a West Sand Lake resident who has been on leave from his position as a civilian employee of the New York State Police, plans to retire from the New York Army National Guard on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
"It is an honor to be named as the Army Guard's sixth senior enlisted leader and to be able to continue to work for this professional organization, to help the citizens of New York," Wilson said.

He deployed to Tikrit, Iraq in 2004 and 2005 with the Engineer Brigade of the 42nd Infantry Division.
Wilson is a 2002 graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and holds an associates degree in food service administration from Monroe Community College. He retired from the Rochester Police Department after 20 years on the force.
