PADUCAH, KY (06/27/2017) John Carrico was named the 2016-2017 Rotarian of the Year at the Mayfield Rotary Club Annual Installation Dinner June 26.

The award came as surprise to the Fancy Farm native. In fact, he was taking photographs of others when his name was called. "I have received other awards over the years that were all really nice and I really appreciated each and everyone, but being named Rotarian of the Year really does mean a lot to me particularly with me getting it as I am leaving my professional life. It just means so much."

Carrico, vice president of administrative services at West Kentucky Community and Technical College, has been a member of the Mayfield club since 2003. He will retire June 30 after 33 years at WKCTC.

The Rotarian of the Year award was presented to Carrico for exhibiting the Rotary Club's motto of "Service Above Self" by his willingness to take on any task with "outstanding dedication and commitment," according to the plaque he received. Carrico said he has enjoyed working on the many community projects the Mayfield Rotary Club coordinates each year including events for youth in the community, pancake breakfasts and the annual radio auction. "We have a great club and there are a lot of people just as deserving as me of this award," he said. "It's truly an honor to be a member of this club."

A Fancy Farm High School graduate, Carrico received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky and worked as an internal auditor at UK from 1984-1990. He also served as the assistant audit manager at the State Auditor of Public Accounts Office for six years.

In addition to the Mayfield Rotary Club, Carrico has volunteered with many organizations within the community including the St. Jerome Finance Committee, Knights of Columbus Council #1418, the St. Jerome School 1909 Renovation Committee, and one of his favorites, the Fancy Farm Picnic Committee.
