Rhubarb Desserts Earn State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (09/12/2024) (readMedia)-- Daniel Hodges of Ames won first place and a $125 cash award in the Inventive Rhubarb competition, judged Friday, August 16, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Regina Kennedy of Des Moines claimed second place and $75. Belinda Meyers of Osceola and Sharon Lesan of Ankeny tied for third place and $50.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
