NEWTON, MA (02/27/2013)(readMedia)-- Julie Smith, a graphic design major at Mount Ida College and Richmond, RI resident, has been honored for her artwork on both local and national levels. During the fall and spring semesters, she has been named a Contributor at Getty Images, a worldwide provider of digital media. In addition, the Photographer's Forum magazine, an award-winning publication for emerging professionals, selected Smith as a finalist among 16,000 entries for their 33rd Annual College and High School Photography Contest.

Smith, a junior at Mount Ida, found her penchant for photography during her first year of college. She always had an interest in digital editing and felt that photography was the best medium for conveying her ideas. Her recent work, recognized by Getty Images and the Photographer's Forum, focused on creative imagery in her hometown of Richmond. In the woods, on the beach, and at her house, she enlisted the help of friends and family for photo shoots.

"When I entered the Photographer's Forum contest, I had no intention of winning anything. To think that they picked one of my images is absolutely insane," stated Smith. "Learning that I was chosen as a finalist has given me the reassurance I need to continue making art. It's what I love doing and can't wait to see what's next."
