MORRISTOWN, NJ (04/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Alexis Eckert of Ridgewood, N.J., has successfully defended her dissertation at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., to earn her doctorate in educational leadership. Eckert's dissertation is entitled, "The Wonder of Two: A Study of Co-Teaching at the Middle School Level."

"My experience in the doctoral program at the College of Saint Elizabeth has been wonderful. Being part of the first cohort was a particularly special experience," says Eckert. "I had the opportunity to get to know truly fabulous educators and our professors were amazing...The best part of the program was the focus on servant leadership. Moving forward, it is my goal to lead, serve, and make a positive impact in the field of education for many years to come."

Eckert is Principal at Ho-Ho-Kus Public School, a position she has held for 10 years. She is a life-long educator with 25 years of experience in teaching and school leadership in Bergen County schools.

The doctoral program at CSE, which is dedicated to preparing leaders who are committed to social justice and ethical practice, began in August 2007. "Integrated into all course work and learning activities are the central values and beliefs necessary for school leaders to function as morally purposeful stewards for their school communities," states Dr. John Crews, Ed.D., CSE educational leadership program chair. "This philosophy of servant leadership represents a major shift from the traditional paradigm of school leaders as managers of resources, which is so prevalent in today's practices."
