River Falls Native Jay Slick Selected to MIAC Team
SAINT PAUL, MN (06/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Bethel University senior Jay Slick from River Falls, Wis., was selected to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athlete Conference (MIAC) Team. It was the third All-Conference selection of Slick's Bethel career-he achieved an All-Conference selection in 2009 and 2010. Throughout the season, Slick was near the top of every hitting category in the conference, totaling a .379 batting average (sixth), .561 slugging percentage (seventh), and .491 on-base percentage (fourth). Additionally, he compiled 50 hits (fifth) throughout 132 plate appearances, which allowed him to drive in 32 runs (fourth) and score 27 runs (eighth) himself. He accumulated 14 doubles (third), two triples, two home runs, and 74 total bases (fourth) in 2012, while going 7-for-8 in stolen base attempts. The catcher was also incredibly patient at the plate, as he tallied 25 walks, the third highest in the conference.
Perhaps the most impressive stat of Slick's season was that he started every game for the Royals at the catcher position – a feat only one other catcher in the conference accomplished. Finally, in the field Slick recorded a .976 fielding percentage and threw out 18 runners on the base paths.
