Rochester Census: NY Secretary of State, Rochester Mayor Duffy to Lead Community Discussion on Census
Local Groups to Discuss Census Outreach Plans with City, State Officials; Census Jobs Still Available in Rochester
ROCHESTER, NY (02/16/2010)(readMedia)-- New York Secretary of State Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez will join Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy and other local officials and community groups at City Hall on Thursday, February 18, at 3 p.m. to talk about the importance of the 2010 census for the more than 200,000 residents of the city, as well as the more than one million people who live in the greater Rochester area.
Rochester received two of the 31 grants that Gov. Paterson awarded local governments and community groups to perform public education, community outreach and other activities in hard-to-count and low response rate populations. At the event, city and state officials will discuss how Rochester plans on using the grant money and what people can do to help to ensure a complete and accurate count – including applying for a census job right here in the Flower City.
| WHO: | Secretary of State Cortés-Vázquez, Rochester Mayor Duffy, other local officials, community groups |
| WHAT: | A Census 2010 discussion |
| WHEN: | Thursday February 18, 2010 at 03:00PM Eastern Time (US & Canada) |
| WHERE: | Rochester City Hall 30 Church Street Rochester, New York 14614 |
| NOTES: | The city of Rochester was one of only two cities in New York to receive multiple state grants to help ensure a high level of census participation. The higher the participation, the better the city and county will be able to provide social services for its citizens – from emergency assistance to school aid. Data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau determines how some $400 billion in federal aid is divided annually among the states and counties. The New York State Department of Labor and U.S. Census Bureau estimate that there are still hundreds of census jobs available in the Rochester area. |
