Retired Rochester Police Officer Will Be Top Enlisted Soldier in 4,500-member 53rd Troop Command

LATHAM, NY (04/13/2011)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major Louis Wilson, a retired Rochester police officer, has been named top enlisted Soldier for the 4,500-Soldier 53rd Troop Command.
As Command Sgt. Major for the unit, one of the New York Army National Guard's two major commands, Wilson is responsible for advising Brig. Gen. Michael Swezey, the 53rd's Commander on enlisted Soldier training and morale. Traditionally the sergeant major serves as a trusted set of eyes for the commander out in the field.
Wilson, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, formally served as Command Sgt. Major of the 153rd Troop Command in Buffalo.
Wilson enlisted in the New York Army National Guard in 1976, serving as a cannon crewman with the 1st Battalion 209th Field Artillery in Rochester. Since then he has served as top non-commissioned officer in many units including the 1st Battalion 156th Field Artillery, and the 42nd Engineer Brigade.
He is a graduate of Monroe Community College where he earned an Associate's Degree in Food Service Administration.
He and his wife Teresa have three children.
His awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, New York State Conspicuous Service Cross, New York State Commendation Medal, and Combat Action Badge.
