Roger Williams University to Award Scholarship in Memory of East Providence Police Officer

Applications Now Being Accepted for the Inaugural Award of the Alister C. McGregor Scholarship

BRISTOL, RI (04/23/2010)(readMedia)-- Established by the Major Alister C. McGregor Memorial Foundation as a loving tribute to the fallen officer, Roger Williams University today announced a newly endowed scholarship in his namesake. Applications are now being accepted from undergraduate students, enrolled full time at RWU, who are the children, stepchildren, or spouses of police officers who were killed in the line of duty.

Maj. McGregor, a 16-year veteran of the East Providence Police Department and RWU alumnus, was killed in the line of duty in December 2001. A state expert on the use of deadly force, Maj. McGregor developed policies for responding to school shootings that are still being taught in Rhode Island police agencies today.

In the absence of applicants meeting the above eligibility criteria, students enrolled full time at RWU who are the children of Rhode Island police officers and who have demonstrated financial need may apply. In the event no applicants meet these criteria, students enrolled full time at the Roger Williams University School of Justice Studies and who have demonstrated financial need may apply.
