Roofers Recruit Apprentices
WEST SENECA, NY (03/31/2010)(readMedia)-- The Roofers Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee of WNY, Local Union # 74, will conduct a recruitment from April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011 for twenty (20) roofer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained in person only at Local Union #74, 2800 Clinton Street, West Seneca, NY, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The committee requires that applicants:
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Must have a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by signed affidavit attesting to physical ability to perform work required and pass drug test/physical.
* Must have valid NYS driver's license to operate company vehicle.
* Must have reliable private transportation to and from work sites and related instruction facilities.
* Must present high school diploma or GED (if they have one) and driver's license upon hiring.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
