BUFFALO, NY (05/31/2010)(readMedia)-- The Roofers Local Union #210 Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, will conduct a recruitment from June 1, 2010 through May 31, 2011 for twelve roofer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the New York State Department of Labor at the following locations: Chautauqua – 23 E. Third Street, Jamestown and 407 Central Ave, Dunkirk; Cattaraugus – 175 N. Union Street, Suite 4, Olean; Allegany – Allegany County Employment & Training Complex, 7 Wells Lane, Belmont. Applications are also available at Jamestown Roofing, Inc., 119 Clifton Ave, Jamestown and A.W. Farrell & Sons, 3761 E. Lake Road, Dunkirk. Applications are available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period and also on-line at www.rooferslocal210.org.
The committee requires that applicants:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Transcript is required at time of indenture.
• Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicle on public roads. Proof of driver's license is required at time of indenture.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and related instruction facilities.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
