ANNVILLE, PA (10/10/2014)(readMedia)-- Lebanon Valley College invites community members to join students for a celebration of Rosh Chodesh, a Jewish tradition honoring women of faith. Live klezmer music, a banquet of traditional Jewish foods, and stories from members of Congregation Beth Israel are all part of the event, to be held in Mund College Center on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. Tickets are available by calling LVC's Office of Spiritual Life at 717-867-6135 or emailing nsmith@lvc.edu by Tuesday, Oct. 21.

During the banquet, Rabbi Paula Reimers of Congregation Beth Israel will explain the origins and significance of this celebration of women and read portions of related scriptures in Hebrew and English. Members of the congregation and LVC students will share the stories of three other famous women of faith.

Traditional Jewish food will be a centerpiece of the celebration, including a traditional beef brisket, potato koogle, other sides, and special desserts. Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy the music of a large klezmer band whose members have gathered from several counties for more than 20 years.

"What a pleasure it will be to have the Old World Folk Band at the College again," said Paul Fullmer, chaplain at the College and a key organizer of the event. "In addition to providing lively music, members of the band will lead willing participants in circle dancing. The evening promises to be an inspirational one."

LVC students who sign up by the deadline may provide their ID number for a meal exchange. Ticket prices are $5 for LVC faculty and staff and children under 12, $7 for non-LVC students, and $15 for the general public.
