Rumford Native Molly Thomsen Named Lake Forest College Athlete of the Week

The junior pitcher picked up two victories during the team's spring break trip.

LAKE FOREST, IL (03/23/2012)(readMedia)-- Lake Forest College softball player Molly Thomsen (Rumford, R.I./St. Mary Academy) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for her performance in the team's final six contests at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida.

Thomsen, a junior pitcher, posted a 2-1 record and 1.47 earned run average during the final three days of the trip.

Thomson pitched all seven innings of a 4-2 triumph over Wheaton College (Mass.) on Thursday. She struck out three batters, walked one, and matched a career-best by surrendering just four base hits in the contest.

Lake Forest fell 6-1 to Transylvania University on Friday in Thomsen's next outing. Five of the runs were unearned and she once again struck out three batters while walking only one.

Finally, on Saturday, Thomsen and the rest of the Foresters defeated Anderson University 7-5. She surrendered three runs (two earned) in six innings of work and allowed just five base hits while striking out two without a walk.

Thomas went 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA overall on the trip. She struck out 18 and walked just five in her five starts.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
