Running Elections Efficiently: A Best Practices Convening

Sponsored by Common Cause and Common Cause/NY and theUrban and Social Policy Program, School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University

NEW YORK, NY (05/17/2013)(readMedia)-- Elections administration in New York State and New York City are perennial hot topics, no more so than in a mayoral election year. After hurricane Sandy nearly devastated the general election in 2012, New Yorkers are gearing up again for what BOE officials are already promising to be a challenging election season. In addition, there is legislation currently under review in the NYS Legislature to enact early voting and ballot redesign to better facilitate the voting experience.

As such, Common Cause and Common Cause/NY, with support from the George S. McGovern Great Government Endowment, will co-sponsor a convening with the Urban and Social Policy Program, School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University to address the best practices in elections administration.

Elections administration officials/experts from across the country including California, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, and North Carolina will address topics such as early voting, online registration and voter education, post-election procedures, disaster preparedness and polling place challenges.
