SEPTEMBER POETRY SERIES SET FOR TUESDAY, SEPT. 19 AT ECU
ADA, OK (09/12/2017) East Central University's Poetry Series, featuring speakers Jenny Yang Cropp and Sly Alley, will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 p.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center inside the Bill S. Cole University Center.
The event is free and open to everyone.
Cropp's first full-length collection of poems, entitled String Theory (an Oklahoma Book Award finalist in poetry) was released in September of 2015 by Mongrel Empire Press.
Her work has recently appeared in Poemeleon's Asian Pacific American issue, Real: Regarding Arts and Letters, Arts Focus Oklahoma and the streets of downtown Oklahoma City via the Make It Rain Poems project.
Cropp's newest chapbook, Not a Bird or a Flower, is forthcoming from Ryga this fall. She is currently an assistant professor in English at Southeast Missouri State University, where she also served as the poetry editor for the journal Big Muddy.
Alley is a writer of poetry and short-fiction whose work has appeared in The Muse and Dragon Poet Review.
His work has been featured at the annual Howlers and Yawpers Creative Symposium at Seminole State College, Poetry at The Paramount in Oklahoma City, Woody Guthrie Poets, Oklahoma Voices First Sunday Poetry at IAO Gallery and Second Sunday Poetry at Tidewater Winery.
Alley's debut collection of poems titled Strong Medicine is published by Village Books Press and won the 2017 Oklahoma Book Award for poetry. He writes on a vintage Royal typewriter in a fortified shack in Tecumseh.
