SFU Student Named the Father Thomas Schaffer Award Recipient from SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation

Saint Francis University student, Damian Tobias, is this year's recipient of a $5,000 Father Tom Schaefer Scholarship from SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation. The SAGE Scholars Educational Foundation in 2019 pledged $1,000,000 in scholarship funds to further support SAGE Scholars' mission - making higher education more affordable. 2022 marks the fourth year of the annual Dr. James B. Johnston scholarship essay contest.

This year hundreds of students shared their stories, preparing for college, visiting the campus, and making their final choices. Damian's essay stood out for the top scholarship prize of $5,000. He says, "Saint Francis University made a promise that they would honor my goals and career path in any way that they possibly could, even if it meant adapting the curriculum to be learned outside of the classroom. No other university seemed to value hands-on learning nearly as much as Saint Francis University, so it was clear that they were the perfect fit."

Damian is a first-year student in the Shields School of Business.
