AIKEN, SC (06/05/2018) Student Government Association President Brandon Eberl and Ace, the University of South Carolina Aiken mascot, joined veteran service organizations, businesses, civic groups and area youth during the annual Memorial Day Parade to pay tribute to those who lost their lives defending the nation and the freedom enjoyed in the United States of America.

"The Memorial Day Parade Planning Committee is steadfastly dedicated to ensuring our community - especially our youth - never forget the importance of Memorial Day and why we observe it," wrote Jeanne Quattlebaum in a letter to the editor, which was published in the Aiken Standard.

"Aiken's annual Memorial Day Parade is a unique and special opportunity to pay tribute to those who gave their lives - and the families who still suffer the tremendous loss.

"For those of us who wore the uniform alongside these heroes, the parade gives us a chance to represent our fellow service men and women who didn't make it home. We participate in the parade not so that we can be recognized but so that we can honor them."

She and the members of the parade planning committee are grateful that Eberl chose to participate in the event.
