SUNY Board Chairman to Speak at SUNY Delhi Commencement

Alumna Theresa Molloy to be honored with Doctorate

DELHI, NY (05/08/2012)(readMedia)-- H. Carl McCall, Chairman of the State University Board of Trustees, will serve as the keynote speaker at SUNY Delhi's 95th annual commencement exercises at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi on Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m. in the Maines Arena, Clark Field House. He will also participate in the presentation of an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to Theresa Molloy '80.

Theresa Molloy is an accomplished financial services executive with proven expertise building innovative business-to-business capital markets intelligence and advisory services for the world's most respected companies including Dow and S&P 500 leaders. Molloy most recently served as vice president, global issuer services for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Euronext. She managed a team of professionals who served as a primary source for strategy, development and implementation of the NYSE Market Access Center and all NYSE investor relations services. Molloy was also managing director for the American Stock Exchange where she was responsible for determining market requirements and managing services designed to offer a diverse customer base of over 800 public companies exposure to key investment professionals nationwide.

Molloy currently serves on the National Investors Relations Institute-New York (NIRI-NY) board as vice president of communications and as a member of the 2012 NIRI Annual Conference planning committee.

Molloy is a strong advocate for SUNY Delhi. As an alumna, she often returns to campus to make presentations, sharing her career advice with students and serving as a role model for young women who wish to excel in the world of business. In 2011, the college dedicated the Farrell Exercise and Dance Studio in honor of her gift in support of the studio. Currently, Molloy serves as an honorary chair of Delhi's 100th anniversary celebration.

Molloy holds an associate's degree in business from SUNY Delhi and a bachelor's degree in political science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

H. Carl McCall was appointed Chairman of the State University of New York Board of Trustees October 17, 2011. He first joined the Board as a member on October 22, 2007.

McCall served as Comptroller of the State of New York from May 1993 to December 2002. As Chief Fiscal Officer of the State, he was responsible for governmental and financial oversight and pension fund management. As sole trustee of the 880,000-member State and Local Retirement Systems, McCall was responsible for investing a pension fund valued at $120 billion.

McCall has had a distinguished career as a public servant. He served three terms as a New York State Senator representing the upper Manhattan district of New York City; as an Ambassador to the United Nations; as a Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; and as the Commissioner of the New York State Division of Human Rights.

McCall has been a passionate advocate for public education. He served as President of the New York City Board of Education from 1991 – 1993, where he set policy for the largest school system in the nation and as the Chairman of the Public Higher Education Conference Board, a coalition of 14 member organization which supports a strong and vibrant public higher education system in New York State.

SUNY Delhi students will also play a prominent role in commencement. Baccalaureate Student of the Year Katherine McGeary, a culinary arts major from Valley Stream, will address the graduates. Teresa Bryant, a nursing major from Newburgh who was named Associate Degree Student of the Year, will also speak.

Also scheduled to address the graduates will be SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko, Provost John Nader, Vice President for Student Life Barbara Jones, and 107th District Assemblyman Cliff Crouch.

Prior to the conferring of degrees and certificates, President Vancko will present the Chancellor's Award for Excellence, the most prestigious honor given by the State University, to SUNY Delhi students, faculty and staff. Award recipients to be recognized at commencement include: Teresa Bryant; George Nassar, a hotel management graduate from Sauquoit; Dr. Jack Tessier, associate professor of liberal arts and sciences, Dr. Amber Tatnall, assistant professor of liberal arts and sciences, Joseph Batchelder, director of capital construction, and Judy Lindsay, secretary 2. President Vancko will also recognize Ian Kowalchuk of Deer Park, who was recognized with SUNY's Scholar Athlete Award.
