SUNY Canton Holds Dining and Health Awareness Showcase

CANTON, NY (04/14/2014)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton Dining Services and Davis Health Center staff will be holding an event to promote local foods, healthy lifestyles and sustainability.

A Dining and Health Awareness Showcase will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Chaney Dining Center. Dinner will be served as part of the event.

"Most of our meals we make come from locally grown or produced foods," said Sue Law, director of dining services. "This night is to educate our students and guests about where their food comes from in addition to providing many health-related services."

Local food vendors and growers will be attending to talk about how their food is grown and produced. A dietician will be available to discuss nutrition and information will be available for tobacco cessation. Other health services offered include information on cold and flu prevention, mini-massages provided by students in the Physical Therapist Assistant program, blood pressure checks by Nursing students, and blood sugar and cholesterol screenings by staff from Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.

The event is free for students who have a meal plan and costs $10 for guests.
